Film Festival | Empire Hotel holds Macau premiere

Empire Hotel, a Macau film production directed by locally-based Portuguese director Ivo Ferreira, held its first-ever screening in the city it depicts on the screen, with its director telling Macau News Agency (MNA) the movie will soon hit cinemas in Portugal and internationally.

“It’s the most important day of this movie in a certain way. It was here that it was conceived and it is here that it will be delivered. It’s a very special day,” Ferreira told MNA during the film’s 2018 International Film Festival and Awards Macau (IFFAM) red carpet ceremony, held at the Macau Cultural Centre on Tuesday night.

The director Ivo M. Ferreira filmed "Empire Hotel", his last movie, during February and March of 2017. The story takes place in Macau.

Empire Hotel world premiere

On 12th October Pingyao International Film Festival will screen the world premiere of “Empire Hotel”, by director Ivo M. Ferreira starring Margarida Vila-Nova and Rhydian Vaughan.

The festival launched last year by Chinese filmmaker Jia Zhangke, with Marco Müller as artistic director, will run from October 11-20 in the ancient city of Pingyao in Shanxi province in China.

“Mio Pang Fei”, documentary directed by Pedro Cardeira has won the Silver Hare at the 9th Films on Art Festival in Portugal.

This film competition is based on the idea to present films made by filmmakers who, artists themselves, explore the universe of another artists.

Artist Mio Pang Fei represents Macao at the Venice Biennale

The exhibition will be an illustration of the abstract painter’s work dedicated for decades to research and the practice of what is called Neo-Orientalism.
The second Macao Pavilion room at the Biennale is dedicated to just this theme: Exploration of Neo-Orientalism. Here the visitor will be able to see the documentary, which recently opened in Macao MIO PANG FEI, by Pedro Cardeira, about the artist’s life and career.
